Originally from Salem, Oregon USA, Melissa Carroll has been performing music across the globe since 2004. After graduating from Pacific University where she studied classical oboe, Melissa relocated to Chengdu, China. She performed in cities such as Chengdu, Chongqing, Wenzhou, Shanghai with a variety of different rock, improvisation and jazz bands and in 2008 founded Bossma Band, a jazz quintet. In the fall of 2008 Melissa left Chengdu for Singapore to perform for St. James Power Station, playing alto, tenor, baritone saxophone and flute in the Bellini Room, where she held residency for two and half years.  She performed regularly at Marina Bay Sands and a variety of other venues for jazz music and taught woodwind instruments (saxophone, flute, oboe and clarinet) for Partners In Brass LTD. In 2013 Melissa returned to Portland where she studied at Portland State University and completed a Masters of Music degree in Jazz Studies in June, 2015. She studied saxophone with David Valdez. Her current music project is The Flat Nines, a jazz-funk ensemble. She is also the assistant music director of Rose City Swing, a community big band operated by the non-profit organization Rose City Gay Freedom Bands.


Melissa teaches music at Park Academy in Lake Oswego, Oregon, a private school for students with Dyslexia and other related learning differences.  She also teaches private music lessons online and at Portland Music Company.  Please contact her for more information about lessons.
